Air cabin crew are responsible for the
comfort and safety of the passengers. From the moment they board the aircraft, they
welcome them, usher them to the seats which have been allocated at
check in, ensure that all hand luggage is safely stored
and that seat belts are fastened. Before take-off they also make
safety announcements, point out the emergency exits,
demonstrate the use of life jackets and oxygen masks and check that
all the doors are properly closed and sealed. As soon
as the plane takes-off the air cabin crew are constantly at work
serving drinks, snacks and heating and serving meals. They
must be prepared to give first aid and deal with emergencies.
Air India, Indian Airlines and International Airlines provide their
own training facilities.
Air India and Indian Airlines recruit air hostesses and flight pursers
every year by inviting applications through newspaper
advertisements particularly in the Employment News Weekly.
Your
Eligibility
* Qualifications : Graduate from a recognised University or
Class 12th pass or an equivalent examination under the 10 + 2
system with 3 years. Diploma in Hotel Management & Catering from a
recognised Institute.
* Age : Below 25 years for air
hostesses and below 26 years for flight pursers (relaxable by 5 years in the case of SCs /
STs)
* Height : Minimum height should be
157.5 cms (barefeet) for air hostesses and 165 cms (barefeet) for flight pursers.
* Weight : In proportion to height and
as per Company standard.
* Vision : Normal eyesight without
glasses or minimum uncorrected distant vision 6 / 24 in each eye. Correctable to atleast
6 / 6 in one eye and 6 / 9 in the other eye. Contact lens power
including cylinder when used to correct the acuity of distant
vision in such cases should not exceed -2D (Minus Two Dioptres).
Candidates who have undergone surgery to improve vision
are not considered .
* Language : Fluency in English and
Hindi. Profeciency Preference given to candidates with knowledge of a foreign language.
* Other : Unmarried, physically fit
with a pleasing personality.
Your
Work Environment
They work in fairly confined spaces. They have
to move skillfully and carefully in a small galley and serve passengers from a
narrow aisle. Frequent travelling on flights can mean keeping
irregular hours and being away for several weeks in foreign
destinations. Rest periods in between flights are spent in first class
hotels. They also have to recover from fatigue and jet lag.

Initial appointment is made as a trainee air hostess. After completing the
required period as a trainee air hostess they get
gross emoluments of Rs.14,000 pm approximately plus attractive
allowances. The flight pursers also join as trainees. After
completing the required period as a trainee flight purser the gross
emoluments are Rs.14,000 pm approximately plus
attractive allowances. These payscales are in the case of most
Airlines in India. The international airlines pay higher salaries.
