About the Institute
Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology was set up in 1996 and has as its objective a career-oriented education in art, design and technology through courses taught by experienced faculty. This builds upon broad-based foundation studies in the liberal arts in an environment of creativity and maximization of individual potential. Srishti encourages participation, interchange and dialogue among students and faculty. A multi-disciplinary approach helps promote self-initiated learning and independent thinking, expands perceptual perspectives and builds artistic vocabulary. Student interaction with design studios, showrooms, production and distribution centres, community projects, retail establishments and industry leaders makes for a creative bridge between Srishti and the world. Srishti has a strong indigenous cultural grounding in the teaching of the visual arts and also provides a liberal arts curriculum comparable to reputed Institutions in the West. Srishti is interfacing with institutions across the world with a vision for and commitment to quality education through new technologies and pedagogies.
Faculty as well as students are enabled to pursue paths of professional excellence by initiating consultation, research and projects that demands the discovery of art and design solutions to societal needs. The Development by Design workshop seeks to bring together a critical community of individuals and organisations engaged in research and design. Various workshops are held for students on social issues, design, use of new technologies etc.
Srishti has state-of-the-art facilities in a compact campus including audio-video teaching aids, an excellent library and a networked Computer Lab working on Windows/Macintosh platforms. It has a functional yet streamlined wood and metal workshop inhouse and access to a well equipped furniture workshop in Bengaluru for making prototypes, exhibition structures and installations.
The alumni have been placed in these organizations – Nokia (Helsinki), Foley Design, Idiom, Pantaloon, Reliance Industries, Studio Line (Malaysia), Leaf Design, Grandmother India, Design Core, and Ray and Keshavan.
