About the Institute
The foundation stone of the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi, commonly called IGRUA, was laid by late Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India, in November 1985. The Akademi functions under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India through its Governing Council.
The main objective of the Akademi is to improve the Flying Training standards in the Civil Aviation Industry and to impart Line Oriented Flying Training of International Standards, as per ICAO norms. The students are honed thoroughly for easy transition to the Airline industry.
IGRUA is the only Institute in India and 5th in the world, to introduce the B.Sc.(Aviation) Degree from Chatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur alongwith the CPL course, subject to successful completion by the candidate of the prescribed syllabus on aviation subjects, flying practical and project work in minimum 3 years.
They also train foreign pilots. In the past, IGRUA has trained trainees from Afghanistan, Royal Nepal Airlines, Mauritius, Zambia and Seychelles.
The Akademi has very sound infrastructure available for flying training. Students who graduate from IGRUA are assured of placement.
