Miscellaneous Awards 2011-12
- The Padma awards for the year 2012 were announced on the eve of India’s 63rd Republic Day. Padma Awards 2012 comprised 13 Padma Vibhushan, 31 Padma Bhushan and 84 Padma Shri Awards.
- Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama was presented the Mahatma Gandhi International Award for Peace and Reconciliation on 4 January 2011.
- The White House on 10 February 2012 named India’s Nobel Prize-winning economist Amartya Sen the recipient of the 2011 US National Humanities Medal. Amartya Sen, who retains his Indian citizenship, is the first Indian to be honored with the medal.
- Bangalore artist Sheela Gowda, who uses unconventional materials to make sculptures was shortlisted for UK’s contemporary art prize, Artes Mundi.
- Controversial film, Dam 999 directed by Sohan Roy made it to a shortlist for the Oscars under the Best Picture category. The film, based on a catastrophe caused by a 100-year-old dam in India giving way, is among the 265 films in contention for the Best Picture. The Tamil Nadu government imposed a ban citing that it may cause animosity between Kerala and TN people as the film was dealing with the subject of the 116-year-old Mullaperiyar dam on the Kerala-TN border. It has made it to the Oscar shortlist as a Hollywood film. Malayalam film Adaminte Makan Abu is India’s official entry.

- The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards were held at Beverly Hills, California on 15 January 2012.

- Best Actress: Drama- Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady)
- Best supporting Actor- Christopher Plummer (Beginners)
- Best Supporting Actress- Octavia Spencer (The Help)
- Best Screenplay- Midnight in Paris (Woody Allen)
- Best Picture: Comedy or Musical- The Artist
- Best Actor: Comedy or Musical- Jean Dujardin (The Artist)
- Best Actress: Comedy or Musical- Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn)
- Best Director- Martin Scorsese (Hugo)
- Best Foreign Language Film- A Separation (Iran)
- Best Animated Film- The Adventures of Tintin
- Best Original Score- Ludovic Bource, The Artist
Grammy Awards 2012
- The 54th Annual Grammy Awards were held on 12 February 2012, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The British songstress, Adele swept the awards winning a staggering six golden gramophones for her Album, 21. Adele, who was named best new artist in 2009, is only the second artist in history to take all four major Grammy categories. Christopher Cross attained the feat in 1981 with a four-award sweep.

- The Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences on 21 December 2011 chose Apple co-founder Steve Jobs to be posthumously honoured with a Grammy award for his contribution to music technology. Jobs is to be honoured as a creative visionary. Jobs, who died on 5 October 2011 of pancreatic cancer, will receive a Trustees Award on 13 February 2012 for helping create products that transformed the way music, TV, movies and books are consumed.
